College & Career Resources
iMentor’s Mission
We believe that students of all backgrounds deserve equal access to post-secondary opportunities.
Recognizing that our country’s history of racism and systemic oppression continues to drive educational disparities for students of color, iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students from under-resourced communities to graduate high school, succeed in college and career pathways, and achieve their ambitions
iMentor partners with high schools so that every student receives individualized support in the post-secondary application process. We continue to support alumni from our partner schools through the completion of their post-secondary pathways.
How it Works
- We match every 11th and 12th grade student with a mentor
- Weekly classes are led by the iMentor Program Manager
- Our curriculum focuses on college and career success
- Students write to their mentor over our online platform
- Monthly events at the school bring together the students and mentors
- Pairs work together on projects such as resumes, college lists, applications, and scholarship research
- iMentor also offers many recreational events, and pairs can meet outside of school with parent/guardian consent
The iMentor Model
Whole School Model
• We match every 11th & 12th grader with a mentor, and we are deeply integrated into each school’s culture
Long-term 1:1 Relationship
• Mentors commit to working with one student for a minimum of three years
Post-Secondary Success Curriculum
• Weekly classes on post-secondary success curriculum facilitated by Program Manager and reinforced by the mentor
Post-Secondary Support
• iMentor continues to support students and pairs in the post-secondary years with ongoing advising, summer workshops, emergency funds, reminders of crucial deadlines and events focused on college persistence.
How we match mentees and mentors?
1. Mentors screened by iMentor & DOE background check
2. Students receive parent/guardian permission for program
3. Students and Mentors fill out an application
4. Program Managers match pairs based on preferences 5. Pairs work together for the next 3 years!
